Disclaimer:

This life, and website, are works in progress, I am neuro-spicy, ADHD to be precise, and I am working on my perfectionist traits by practicing being ‘good enough’ because if I wait for perfection, it’ll never get done. Thats why this page might not feel complete… I’m adding more to my story as and when it pops into my head so I hope you enjoy whats here so far… Maybe this little disclaimer gives you permission to do the same wiht something you’ve been putting off too?

Origin Story; How Revive Therapy came to be …

Chapter 1 Pre massage

I have lived, loved, and worked in Tower Hamlets my whole life. Before starting a family at aged 27, I worked in the entertainment sector, gained a 2.1 degree in Commercial Music from Westminster University, managed events and a Tiki Lounge bar in South London, and before that, I was in a rock band yeh baby! I did a little traveling while at Uni but I have not yet completely scratched that itch, I’m looking forward to that chapter at some point in the future.

While my kids were young, I was a breastfeeding helper, a childminder, I served as a primary school governor for 4 years (yes, 1 year more than usual), I helped with the PTA, and I learned how to drive (best thing ever, I miss my car). I also had a small business called ‘Sugawoo' selling handknitted accessories, before it was trendy. I used to keep fit and healthy by running around East London, and I am a very proud London Marathon completer x2.

Chapter 2 Why massage?

When pregnant with my second child, I was treated to a session of reflexology and it felt amazing! I have always loved learning, so I enrolled in a 5 week mini course in anatomy and physiology at the Whitechapel Idea Store, a modern library in East London.  I found A&P absolutely fascinating and vowed that when my little one was old enough, I would reenroll and complete the full course. Another reason for wanting to do this course was that my husband also has a back condition called scoliosis, and I thought that maybe I could help him if I knew how. So three years later, I started my journey. My plan was to complete A&P one year and then a massage course the following year, but it turned out that the same teacher was teaching both courses that year, and I thought that could be fortuitous, so after much deliberation, I enrolled in both courses at the same time. (I hear all the ADHDrs giggle, of course you did.)

I was so lucky to get to do this. The Idea Store courses are heavily subsidised, and even though at the time it cost all our savings, we would never have been able to afford the full cost. That year, they lost all funding for these qualification courses. I absolutely owe them my start in this field, it has changed my whole life and given me a heartfelt purpose.

Over the course of that intense year of training, I learned the fundamentals of how human body systems function and how to apply that knowledge through touch. It was tough going back to learning, but it helped ‘keep my brain awake’ while my kids were young, and was a great way to keep my overactive brain fed and watered. The courses were a mix of exams and practicals and after qualifying, my case studies became paying clients, and Revive Therapy was born.

Chapter 3 Revive Massage Therapy

Following my certification, I found a deep need to extend my education to be able to help humans in pain, so I enrolled in additional classes in Brighton to pursue a career as an Advanced Clinical Massage Therapist. Its now 10 years later and I have just completed the final year of the BTEC Level 6 Diploma in Advanced Clinical Massage and Sports Therapy. This is currently the highest qualification you can achieve in the UK for massage therapy.
